SHARING THE LOVE: Hugs from a Spider

As I was finishing breakfast this morning, I noticed a half-inch-long brown Jumping Spider working its way toward me along the table-top.  I said Good Morning and got up to take my dishes to the kitchen.  There, I found another JS walking along the top of the stove in my direction.

I asked, were they related?  Yes.

And I recalled a week ago when I had been talking to someone about animal communication at an outdoor venue.  A tiny, delicate web-spinner had been very determined about approaching me.  I gently moved it away, only to find that, somehow, it kept coming back, and eventually managed to land on the back of my neck.  This was too much for my nerves so I asked my companion to move it to safety, which he did.  This little one clearly had something to add to the conversation, but the timing wasn’t right for us humans.

With this in mind, I leaned against the kitchen counter and invited the Jumping Spiders to speak.  The voice I heard spoke with great deliberation.

“We perceive that you are one who is afraid of our presence.  We shall not attempt to move closer.  We acknowledge your ancestral fears and the progress you have made in transmuting those fears to love.

“We perceive your determination to teach/show other humans the fullness of Spider-ness, in that we are much more than strange-looking monsters to be feared.”

[The “table-top spider” has just returned.  It walked casually across the table, in full view, as I wrote.]

“We perceive your grief about the death of one of our people in your home, years ago.  Please allow yourself pardon for this act of fear.  It was a Learning sent to you, which has helped to form your awareness and compassion.

“We perceive your kindness toward all forms of life, your intention to help other humans accept and allow all forms of life.”

By now I realized I was deep in the Receiving, actually hugging myself.  And I began to feel the most wonderful love energy coming from all of Spider-kind.  Usually, I can identify Spider presence by a prickly feeling, as if a spider is walking on my arm.  This time, there were only faint echoes of this feeling.

After a few minutes, I began to “send back” my own love.  The combination felt truly magical, and I stayed there motionless, lost in the bliss, for close to ten minutes.

I had just been hugged by spiders, and I’ll never forget the experience.

Note: Rain also had an important role in this communion, by setting the stage with a lovely, even pattering of drops that rose to a crescendo as I finished typing!
